Our legacy

UKHF was one of the first charities to focus on the primary prevention of chronic diseases through policy research and development. In particular we pushed hard for action to tackle the wider social and commercial determinants of health.

Our work directly influenced government policy, with examples in England including the school fruit and vegetable scheme and the tax on sugar-sweetened beverages.

We published extensively in academic journals and our work has had international reach.

All of UKHF’s policy and modelling work can be found here.

Our policy work

Our policy work is now in the capable hands of major alliances that UKHF helped to establish. These include the Obesity Health Alliance, the Alcohol Health Alliance and the UK Public Health Network, along with many of our former members.

Our modelling capability

Over the past 12 years UKHF has developed a world-leading microhealth simulation software model. This has revolutionised the ability to produce evidence to support policy change, by modelling trends in risk factors and disease, and quantifying the impact of policy options and interventions.

The UKHF’s modelling unit has been acquired by HealthLumen co-founded by Dr Laura Webber, former Director of Public Health Modelling at UKHF, and Dr Simon Lande, an experienced technology entrepreneur. Additional personnel from UKHF also joined the new organisation. To learn more please contact info@healthlumen.com
